Frequently asked questions about Italy weddings

As you’re planning, it’s normal to have many questions. Here are our answers to some common questions about Italy destination weddings.

Where is the best place in Italy to get married?

There’s no true answer– there are so many factors to consider when choosing a location. It truly depends on what’s important to you. Consider things like weather, availability, major holidays, and pricing.

What is the cost of a wedding in Italy?

The total price will be determined by the location, number of guests, and what vendors you hire. Our couples usually spend $2,500 to $3,000 per guest for destination weddings. If you’re choosing a popular area like Lake Como, expect higher prices.

When is the best time to get married in Italy?

May and September are the most popular months to get married in Italy. June, July, and August are perfect months for lots of sunshine if you can stand the heat. In October and November, the tourism season is over, and this is a great time to experience Italy without crowds of people everywhere.

Is it difficult to get married in Italy?

It isn’t difficult, but the process is a bit more involved than filing for a marriage license in the US. You’ll need to fill out paperwork to declare your intent for marriage and prove your US citizenship ahead of time. Then you can schedule an appointment with the Civil Registrar of the City Hall, and you must bring 2 witnesses with you. Your actual wedding ceremony with your guests is symbolic, not a legal ceremony.

What documents do you need to get married in Italy?

To prove your identity, you’ll need a valid US passport and the original or a certified copy of your birth certificate. The US Embassy has a list of all required paperwork.

How far in advance should I book a wedding in Italy?

A year at minimum, especially if you’re choosing a popular location or venue. We recommend about 18 months to ensure there’s enough time to plan and execute your vision.

Do you need a wedding planner for Italy?

Of course, our answer is always yes. Hiring a wedding planner will save you time, money, and many headaches throughout the planning process. For Italy weddings, we can help you with things like transportation, legal requirements, coordinating local vendors, and so much more.
